The 14th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket is starting in India at a time when corona infection is on the rise.
Last year’s winners Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore are competing in the inaugural match on Friday. The game will start at 8 pm in Chennai.
With the second wave of corona infections spreading, it was unclear whether the IPL cricket tournament would be held or not. Most of the six cities where the tournament is played are infected with the corona.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said that all necessary preparations have been made to play the IPL safely.
The thirteenth edition of the IPL was held in Dubai last year.
